Their concern follows the demise of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah from Nnewi North on July 27, 2024, who previously represented the area.
The stakeholders, which include, Chidi Anyaegbu, Maja Umeh, and Johnbosco Akaegbobi, signed a statement emphasizing that every Local Government Area in the Senatorial District deserves representation at the federal level.
They highlighted the current imbalance in Anambra South’s political landscape, where six other Local Government Areas have federal representation, but Nnewi South remains without any.
The stakeholders also pointed out that Ihiala LGA, Aguata LGA, and Nnewi South LGA all have 20 wards, but Nnewi South is not a federal constituency, putting it at a strategic disadvantage.
By allowing Nnewi South to produce the next Senator, the stakeholders noted, the zone can address the long-standing inequity and ensure fair representation.
